casual musings on things

A little frustration

Im frustrated today. I can’t help but feel I came across as preachy and angry yesterday at work. While engaged in a conversation about a colleagues lost phone and how he remind relatively calm about the whole affair others mentioned how they are incapable of living without their mobile. This is a common sentiment in this day and age and for good reason. Our lives are now connected to these devices in multiple ways and I am no different. These statements lead me to heatedly talk about how we should try and disconnect from our mobile phones and since we all realise it that, we all no that it is the best thing to do for ourselves.

This is where one colleague argued that what would she do without her phone? Be bored? I answered, fairly loudly and with passion, YES! Being bored is perfectly acceptible! We need to start looking at the world more and just be with our thought...or something along those lines. I didn’t mean it as an attack on the person but I think it came across that way. The conversation died off and we went about our day. The reason I believe so wholeheartedly in this is because we are trained to rely on our phones for everything. Work, leisure, commuting and whatever else. I do it also and its for that reason I believe so much in what I say. I hate that im addicted to this device.

Iv taken steps to try and cut down my usage and I think it is working, slowly for now, but I feel like its the first steps to hopefully some sort of separation. Also I feel that if I can come to that conclusion and make the first steps then other can also. People I hold in high regard should I feel be walking this path with me. Im aware I can’t force people to change but if you have seen the issue and don’t try to remedy it then you might need some help. Like with any addiction that someone can’t shake, you need someone to help you get started. I want my friends and colleagues to be able to live the life that we all deserve to live without capitalist strings attached. That is of course what is going on here.

Capitalism has taken what is a really useful technology and twisted it in such a way that we cannot escape from it. Big tech then makes profit from it and us and the circle of money continues. We all know it. We have all seen the political cartoons of us being slaves to big tech so this isn’t an original thought im having.

I dunno man. I have these days where I sometimes have outbursts like this because I can clearly see whats happening to us and hate to see people so powerless as well as apathetic to it. IT being the way we have structured our world. How can we transition to a better world if we can’t even see a way out of our small private prison cells. How can we try help those around us if we refuse to help ourselves.
