casual musings on things

Got my alphasmart neo

After a considerable struggle my AlphaSmart neo arrived. I spent a fair amount of time debating whether I should by one of these as they aren’t exactly cheap. I was also worried about falling into the trap of needing a mcguffin to write instead of just actually writing.

Anyway after yodel ballsed up the delivery twice I am now happily typing away in bed. It is very satisfying I might add. There is something about typing on it that feels right. It might be the fact that there is nothing else I can do on it. Its a tool designed for one thing and it does it well. Speaking of tools designed for one thing. I seem to be moving in that direction more and more these days.

First I got a watch, a basic casio that cost me £10. This was so that I would stop using my phone. Then I installed GrapheneOS on my phone so I had more control over it. Oh I can’t forget my mp3 player or DAP(digital audio player) as they are now called. This to replace spotify and I always just preferred a dedicated music player.

Its not that I hate technology. On the contrary I’m a big fan of it. Its just that I don’t want it to control me. This seems to be the purpose of technology these days. How can we control our users so that we can extract value from them. Seems I am getting into a whole new topic here so maybe I should call it a day and take this up another time.
